Frequently Asked Questions
What is clinical psychology?
A clinical psychologist undertakes training in the assessment and treatment of psychological difficulties. These problems range from diagnosable mental health conditions to issues such as stress and relationship difficulties. Clinical psychologists use ‘talking therapies’ to help people with their problems.
What is coaching?
A coach’s primary role is to help you achieve your goals in any important life domain (e.g., work, physical health, relationships). Goals may be performance (e.g., improve appraisal scores at work) and/or wellbeing-orientated (e.g., reducing self-defeating thinking and behaviour patterns).
What interventions do we use?
We use several evidence-based interventions in our work including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. We utilise practical techniques from these approaches combined with the latest scientific findings in psychology and neuroscience.
How long does each session last?
Sessions are normally 50 minutes in duration. Assessment sessions are sometimes required and last 90 minutes.
How frequently will we meet?
This will depend on the nature of your difficulties and your session goals. We tailor session frequency according to your other life/work commitments, financial circumstances and other considerations. Session frequency ranges from weekly to a few times per year.
What can I expect in sessions?
Expect structured, goal-focused sessions with a conversational, friendly tone. Read more about sessions and what to expect.
How much do sessions cost?
Latest session rates can be found on our Bookings page.
What if I need to cancel my session?
You can cancel or reschedule a session by giving at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice are not eligible for a refund unless an unforeseen emergency has occurred. You can reschedule sessions using the link provided on the appointment confirmation email received with each booking.
What should I do if I have safety concerns for myself or someone else?
We do not provide an emergency or crisis service because we work independently and only during normal business hours. You should contact your local emergency services immediately if you have concerns for your safety or that of another person.
What are the confidentiality procedures?
Sessions are confidential unless an urgent safety issue arises. This issue is discussed further in your first session.
